Free solar calculator — start with your bill, not a sales call
Most “free solar calculators” are forms dressed up as tools. You type a ZIP, they sell your phone number. Helio is the other kind: a real sizing pass from the kilowatt-hours you already buy, then a ballpark you can walk away with. No charge. No obligation to talk to anyone.
What it does
Helio sizes from your electric bill — monthly kWh, or a dollar amount with enough rate context to be useful — then from the roof you actually have. You leave with a system size sketch, a production shape, and a cost range. You can compare cash, loan, and lease as illustrative shapes so the first sales visit is not the first time you have seen the numbers.
That is homework. It is not a bid. An installer quote still needs a site survey: roof condition, panel, setbacks, shade through the year, utility paperwork. Helio exists so that conversation starts smarter. For the longer cost framing, see How much does solar cost?.
What you need
- A recent electric bill (or a solid guess at monthly kWh)
- A service address or ZIP so roof and local context can inform the sketch
- Five quiet minutes — not a webinar, not a callback trap
You do not need to know kilowatts, inverter brands, or whether you “qualify.” If you want the physics and pay-path walkthrough first, skim How solar saves money, then come back.
What you get
- A bill-based system size, not an “average American home” stereotype
- A production and savings shape tied to that size
- Cash / loan / lease views that help you compare ownership paths — labeled as estimates, not lender or lease contracts
- The option — only after a full design — to contact a Helio Verified installer
Helio does not invent a national cents-per-kWh rate, a dollars-per-watt sticker, or a federal tax-credit line item. Incentive rules change and depend on your situation; ask the installer and a tax professional what applies to you.
What it is not
- Not a lead mill. Helio Verified companies are the only ones you can reach through this site, and only after real design work. No purchased lists.
- Not a binding quote. Roof surprises and electrical upgrades move real numbers.
- Not a battery sizing substitute if outages are the main goal — panels make daytime power; storage is a separate decision.
- Not a promise of timeline, home-value lift, or utility credit rates. Those are local.
When you are done sizing, you can close the tab. Or you can take the design to a human who already sees your kW and ballpark — that is the Helio path, not a cold call from someone who bought your ZIP.
